AI Engineer
As it strengthens its AI team, AEGIR is hiring an AI Engineer to design, implement and deploy innovative algorithms for perception, environment understanding, autonomous decision-making and mission optimisation.
- Location
- Lyon, remote work possible
- Contract
- Permanent contract (CDI)
The company
AEGIR is a deeptech start-up developing AI-enabled Command & Control (C2) software to manage complex naval and maritime missions. These missions involve autonomous systems — underwater, surface and aerial drones — in civilian contexts (exploration, inspection, security) and military ones (surveillance, seabed warfare, mine countermeasures).
OCTOPUS, the software developed by AEGIR, supports the design, planning, supervision and conduct of these missions, taking the constraints of both the systems and the environment into account. It comes in three modules:
- Vision, for a Common Operational Picture shared in real time;
- Decision, for coordinating multi-domain systems;
- Action, an embedded AI for autonomous mission execution.
The position
The position is based in Lyon, with remote work possible. Occasional travel in France and Europe is to be expected.
Responsibilities
- Design AI algorithms for multi-sensor perception, data fusion or autonomous mission planning.
- Implement and test models in simulated environments or on real platforms.
- Help optimise the performance of embedded systems (real time, memory and energy constraints).
- Work closely with the software, modelling and product teams to integrate AI components into the operational chain.
- Document, test and maintain the models you produce, with industrialisation in mind.
- Carry out technology watch and contribute to the AI roadmap of OCTOPUS.
Profile
- Higher education degree in mathematics, physics or a related field.
- Command of one or more of the following: operations research, probability, computer vision, signal processing, reinforcement learning, multi-agent systems.
- Solid experience in Python. Experience in Rust is a plus.
- Knowledge of real-time or embedded constraints is highly valued.
- Team spirit, autonomy, rigour and a taste for innovation.
- Prior experience in the maritime or defence sectors, or with autonomous systems, is a plus.
- Professional English required.
Working environment
- A multidisciplinary team: physical modelling, AI, software.
- Projects with high technological stakes, both civilian and military.
- Strong autonomy in an agile, ambitious and responsive start-up environment.
Salary and benefits
- Gross annual salary from €45,000 to €55,000, depending on experience and profile.
- Performance bonus, and fast salary progression based on your contribution to the company’s growth.
- Equipment provided; participation in technology trade shows and field demonstrations with industrial and military partners.
