Permanent contract (CDI)

The company

AEGIR is a deeptech start-up developing AI-enabled Command & Control (C2) software to manage complex naval and maritime missions. These missions involve autonomous systems — underwater, surface and aerial drones — in civilian contexts (exploration, inspection, security) and military ones (surveillance, seabed warfare, mine countermeasures).

OCTOPUS, the software developed by AEGIR, supports the design, planning, supervision and conduct of these missions, taking the constraints of both the systems and the environment into account. It comes in three modules:

  • Vision, for a Common Operational Picture shared in real time;
  • Decision, for coordinating multi-domain systems;
  • Action, an embedded AI for autonomous mission execution.

The position

The position is based in Lyon, with remote work possible. Occasional travel in France and Europe is expected. You will join a technical team in charge of complete software solutions combining Python backend services and React frontends, covering design, development, maintenance and optimisation of the software ecosystem.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and maintain frontend applications with the React framework.
  • Design, develop and maintain FastAPI backend services with a SQLite or PostgreSQL database.
  • Integrate the application components: frontend, backend and third-party services.
  • Carry out testing, debugging and optimisation phases.
  • Create and maintain CI/CD pipelines.
  • Take part in technical design: architecture choices, performance optimisation and security.
  • Write and maintain the technical documentation.
  • Take part in continuous improvement: code reviews, technology watch and best practices.

Profile

  • Engineering or university degree at Master’s level (Bac+5) in computer science, software development or engineering.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in software development (React frontend, FastAPI backend).
  • Good knowledge of the React framework: hooks, context, routing, state management, lifecycle.
  • Mastery of modern CSS (CSS Modules, Tailwind, etc.) and of frontend performance practices such as memoization and lazy loading.
  • Knowledge of web security principles (CORS, XSS, CSRF, token storage, CSP).
  • Advanced handling of HTTP or WebSocket calls: retry, caching, error handling.
  • Good knowledge of the FastAPI framework: routing, dependencies, middlewares, background tasks.
  • Knowledge of asynchronous models (async / await) and of their impact on performance.
  • Mastery of architecture patterns and of modular, testable and maintainable code.
  • Mastery of authentication mechanisms (JWT, OIDC) and of role and authorisation control.
  • Knowledge of SQLite and PostgreSQL databases, of an ORM (SQLAlchemy) and of migrations.
  • Knowledge of backend security best practices: SQL injection, CORS, CSP, password hashing, secrets.
  • Knowledge of Docker and docker-compose, and possibly Kubernetes.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD processes (GitHub Actions).
  • Professional English.
  • Curiosity, autonomy, rigour and a strong desire to contribute to an ambitious, high-impact project.
  • Knowledge of TypeScript is a plus.
  • Knowledge of a message broker and of caching systems (RabbitMQ, Redis, etc.) is a plus.

Working environment

  • Multidisciplinary team (physical modelling, AI, software).
  • Projects with high technological and strategic stakes.
  • Strong autonomy in an agile and responsive start-up environment.

Salary and benefits

  • Gross annual salary of €45,000 to €55,000, depending on experience and profile.
  • Performance bonus and fast salary progression, depending on contribution to the company’s development.
  • Equipment provided, and participation in technology trade shows and defence events.
