AI DAYS Brest: challenges and opportunities of AI for defence

At the AI DAYS in Brest, Nicolas Bordet, co-founder and General Manager of AEGIR, discussed defence AI with Marc Fontaine (Helsing France) and Alexandre Chapoutot (LARIAD – ENSTA / AMIAD).

Four speakers seated on stage during the AI DAYS round table in Brest, with a screen above them showing the portraits of the participants and the title of the session.

Recent conflicts show that operational superiority no longer rests on platform performance alone. It now depends on the ability to exploit massive volumes of heterogeneous data, turn them into actionable information within seconds, coordinate autonomous systems and create mass through software. This is AEGIR’s mission: developing Command & Control software built on data fusion and decision-support algorithms and AI.

The panel also stressed that Europe has every ingredient needed to grow world leaders in defence AI: forces engaged in experimentation, leading research labs and start-ups able to innovate fast. The next challenge is to move from experimentation to large-scale deployment, through an ambitious industrial policy, more agile public procurement and lasting private funding.

Thanks to the AI DAYS, Pôle Mer Bretagne Atlantique and Frédéric Renaudeau for the invitation.
